Corpores Infames: Disreputable Bodies

Corpores Infames: Disreputable Bodies is an ongoing collaborative performance piece developed with Belladonna Paloma and Rabindranath X Bhose for Glasgow International 2024. The piece was made in intimate dialogue between the boglands of Shetland and Glasgow and looked into our collective research around bogland as holy and resilient places related to transness and disability. The title references the Roman historian Tacitus describing the bodies buried by Celtic tribes as corpores infames or disreputable bodies and speaks to the imagined histories of gender queer and disabled bodies ritually sacrificed to the land.

Corpores Infames: Disreputable bodies manifested at GI 2024 as a ritual promenade through Lenzie Moss on the summer solstice. The performance bought together spoken word, song, gesture and costume to encapsulate the unique and imagined histories of the of Glasgow's surrounding bogland.
